The Fayette Business Education Partnership, the workforce development arm of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Grayson House at Mt. Hope, is excited to announce the start of a new endeavor aimed at building the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Fayette County by hosting their first Fayette County Young Entrepreneur Showcase.
This new event, focused on young people from the ages of 6-14 years old, will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Grayson House in Uniontown. Ashley Smolenski, owner of the Grayson House and co-founder of the Fayette Showcase, stressed the importance of events such as these, “As both a mom and a business owner, I know it’s important to give kids an opportunity to put their own entrepreneurial spirits to the test.”
Each of the young entrepreneurs will be encouraged to set up “shop” at the showcase and sell their self-created products. As an added incentive, prizes will be awarded for the most original business idea, highest business potential, and best presentation. The cost to participate is $15 per child or team, which will be refunded at the conclusion of the showcase.
“Small business is the backbone of the American economy,” stated Muriel Nuttall, executive director of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce. “Entrepreneurs are the engines that bring our small business community to life. We’re so happy to be able to support our business-minded youth,” Nuttall added.
Kathi Hull, Business Education Partnership Coordinator said, “We’re excited to see the creativity brought forth by our young people in terms of entrepreneurship. This Showcase is more than just the event, it’s really about the process involved with idea creation, developing a business plan, and bringing the product to market. I can’t wait to see their products at the event.”
